Switching to French Horn?

I used to play the trumpet for marching band and concert band but this year i switched to mellophone for marching band, and my teachers want to me to switch to french horn for concert band. Is it hard to learn the fingerings for the french horn?

it depends on how good you are at learning new stuff. I would NOT suggest it but you could use the F side only and play with trumpet fingerings. Some would be alternates but you could actually do it that way. You should be able to figure out the fingerings though if you know some brass theory. I’ll give you a start: open notes on the
F horn: G(below staff) C E G [(B) C D E F]
Bb horn: [F(below staff) C F] (A) C F G A C
[usually played on other horn]
(usable but not always in tune)
knowing that 1 goes down a step 2 down a half and 3 down 1 1/2 you should be able to figure things out from there
