Will my toenail fall off on its own?

I had hematoma a long time ago. It must have been a very long time ago because there doesn’t seem to be any blood under the toenail. The nail is a dark purple, now. So, I got curious with a pin, and I loosened the toenail enough to lift it up a bit. It’s still attached at the base.

I’m not a doctor, but I’m not totally clueless. I cleaned the pin, I cleaned the area around and under the toenail with peroxide, I dried it, and wrapped the toe with a folded square of toilet paper, and clear tape. I didn’t have any surgical tape or gauze. During this whole thing, I was careful enough to not pierce the actual nail bed. Will the nail just fall off on its own? I’d rather not pull it out.

This is the pinkie toe, by the way. I have cross country practice Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I have marching band practice Tuesday and Thursday. How should I care for and wrap the toe before and after practice?

When it comes off soak it in the am for 10 min in 1 gal of warm-hot water with 2 tbsp of epsom salt and then again in the pm for 2 weeks and keep it covered with a band aid and neosporin. After 2 weeks you can let it breathe again and a nail should already be growing back by then. Good luck!
